LEON A. BRYAN

DUDLEY -- Leon A. Bryan, 87, of Dudley, passed away at his residence on Friday.

Leon was the son of the late Martin and Mamie Hudson Bryan. He was married to the love of his life, Esther M. Bryan for 67 years.

For almost 30 years, he was owner and operator of Bryan Auto Salvage. He proudly served in the United States Navy in World War II, as well as serving Wayne County as county commissioner, working closely with the volunteer fire departments. He was also a charter member of the Goldsboro Volunteer Rescue Squad serving for 29 years. He served on the Wayne Memorial Hospital Board and the Wayne County Library Board.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bryan is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Hartzog and husband, Keith of Dudley, Dolly Berge and husband, Jon of Grifton and Everette Johnson and husband, William of Goldsboro; a sister, Eleanor Fields; four grandchildren, Kelly Jernigan, Jessica Lee Hartzog, Kim Johnson and Teresa Johnson; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Daughtry and the Rev. Gene Waters officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
