Aug. 19, 1927-April 2, 2013

WASHINGTON -- Mr. James Latham "Jim" Hodges Sr., 85, 8224 U.S. 17 North, Washington, Gum Swamp community, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Old Ford Church of Christ, 6040 U.S. 17 North, Washington, conducted by Eddie Bowen and Thomas Hamilton. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Churchill Hodges, Robert Leggett, John Leggett, Billy Swain, Chris Bailey and Jason Bailey.

Mr. Hodges was born in Beaufort County Aug. 19, 1927. He was the son of the late Oscar and Caddie Willard Hodges.

He was a retired farmer.

Mr. Hodges was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ for more than 70 years and the Woodmen of the World, Old Ford Camp 671.

In his spare time, Mr. Hodges enjoyed collecting antiques and old farm tractors.

Dec. 31, 1959, Mr. Hodges married the former Myrtle Bailey, who preceded him in death March 15, 2006.

Mr. Hodges is survived by his daughter, Deborah "Missy" Lowery and her husband, Bobby, of Goldsboro; his son, Jimmy Hodges and his wife, Laney, of Washington; and his grandchildren, Ryan Lowery, Kathryn Lowery and Amy Ruth Hodges.

In addition to his wife and his parents, Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur Hodges and Oscar Hodges, and five sisters, Elizabeth Hodges, Annie Laurie Swain, Mabry Leggett, Norma Leggett and Madeline Wagoner.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.
