Ann Sorrels passed away peacefully Feb. 5, 2013.

She was born March 14, 1927, in Goldsboro, the daughter of the late John and Lilla Mae Dawson Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Charles Sorrels.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Lynne Sorrels of Fuquay-Varina; granddaughters, Chelsea and Mackenzie Sorrels of Raleigh and Fuquay-Varina respectively; brother, John Thompson (Helen Carole) of Goldsboro; sisters, Mae Henry (John) of Rocky Mount and Katherine Thompson of Goldsboro; and brothers-in-law, John Nicolson of Spartanburg. S.C., and Bill Sorrels Sr.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Dawson Nicolson, and a sister-in-law, Elinor Sorrels of Wadesboro.

Ann lived in Durham for many years, where she taught in the city and county schools.

She retired to Goldsboro, where she resided until she moved to Windsor Point Retirement Community in Fuquay-Varina in 1998.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Goldsboro and an associate member of Fuquay-Varina United Methodist.

She also was a member of the International Order of Kings Daughters and Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority.

Visitation with the family will be held at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of life memorial service at 11 a.m. at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church.

Burial services will be at Willowdale Cemetery in Goldsboro Saturday, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m., followed by a visitation at St. Paul United Methodist in Goldsboro at 4 p.m.
