Sylvia Ann Brady, 72, went to be with her Lord and savior Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation in Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro, with the Rev. Thayer Stamper officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 1:45 p.m., and other times at 219 Worth Drive in Goldsboro.

Mrs. Brady was born Jan. 19, 1941, in Burlington to the late George and Mary Smith.

She was a homemaker, and for most of her adult life she took care of children. She was a caring and devoted wife to her loving husband of 52 years, Samuel J. Brady.

Mrs. Brady was a loving mother not only to her own, but to anyone that needed a mom or grandmother.

She loved to cook, and when she did, she cooked enough to feed the neighborhood.

Sewing was one of her greatest joys. She enjoyed making dresses for the little girls she cared for and could make just about anything she wanted.

Mrs. Brady was very involved in the lives of military families wherever her husband was assigned. While stationed in Greece (Crete), she had the honor of being selected Wife of the Year.

She was a member of Gateway Community Church in Pikeville.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Scott Brady of Raleigh; a daughter, Debra Russell and husband, Kurt, of Goldsboro; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild who were not related by blood, but related by so much love, April Wilson, Brittney Foreman and husband, Shawn, Cianna Wilson, Destiny Wilson and Nathan Foreman; sister-in-law, Sandy Smith of Wichita, Kan.; very special cousins, Vickie Sykes, Jeff Bland, Cathy Bland and Drema Holder all of Burlington; many nieces and nephews; the Brady Family; and special friends, John and Terry Wilson, Gene, Sharon and Heather Daly, Cindy Minchew, Lou Rose and the Stamper Family, Thayer, Amy, Julia, Bailey, Maddie and Avery.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister and brothers, Hazel Poston, Bill Smith, George Smith and David Smith, and her very special aunt, Agnes Bland.
