GARNER -- Jimmy Ray Smith, 43, Garner, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013.

Jimmy was born Oct. 23, 1969, in Wake County to the late Donald and Judy Hamm Smith.

Jimmy worked many years in construction, and for the last several years had worked as a truck driver with Laughlin Poultry Farm Inc.

A lover of the outdoors, Jimmy was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is remembered fondly for his laughter, smile and big heart. Jimmy cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.

A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ashley Summerlin officiating.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 13 years, Deborah Stafford Smith; two daughters, Shannon Whaley and husband, Doug, of Goldsboro and Tabitha Bright and husband, Justin, of Garner; four grandchildren, Malachi Whaley, Douglas Whaley Jr., Camden Whaley and Colton Bright; stepdaughter, Heather Malpass of Black Creek; two sisters, Cindy Aull of Garner and Donna Britt of Seven Springs; the mother of his children, Malissa Smith of LaGrange; a special nephew, Daniel Grant; and six stepgrandchildren, Dylan Malpass, Jadin Poythress, Christian Malpass, Kayden Malpass, Alexis Malpass and Olivia Malpass.

Jimmy was preceded in death by a stepson, Ronnie Malpass.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home in LaGrange.
