RUTH B. WALLER

MOUNT OLIVE -- Ruth Barden Waller, 97, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 11, at Heritage Place in Fayetteville, where she had resided for just more than a year.

A native of Johnston County, she was raised between Princeton and Pine Level, and was valedictorian of her graduating class from Princeton High School. She attended East Carolina Teacher's College and Atlantic Christian College to obtain her teaching certification.

The majority of her teaching career was that of being a second grade teacher at B.F. Grady School, from which she retired.

She was a longtime resident of the Scott's Store community near Mount Olive, where she was a member of Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

Mrs. Waller is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Waller Hill and husband, Harris, of Fayetteville, Judy Waller of Virginia Beach, Va., and Faye Waller Sumner and husband, Brent, of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Cece Pettry, Tracy Brown and Allison Rowe; and a brother, Rudolph Barden and his wife, Joyce, of Raleigh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Bill" Waller; her parents, Robert L. and Addie Creech Barden; a sister, Thelma Powell; a brother, David Barden; a teenage brother; and two young children.

Services to honor the good and long life of Mrs. Waller are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, with visitation to follow. The committal and burial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
