AUGUSTA HELENA KING SILVER

AUGUSTA HELENA KING SILVER

May 1, 1923-Nov. 29, 2012

Augusta Helena King Silver was born May 1, 1923, in Princeton to Authur and Eliza Jane King. She went to live with God Nov. 29, 2012.

In her early life, she moved to Goldsboro, where she attended school and worked many years as a domestic and as a cook for the Goldsboro city schools.

Augusta considered raising her seven children her greatest work and her cherished gift.

She was known as a community servant, who provided meals, clothing and other resources to the needy. She also spent many hours crocheting christening gowns, jackets and hats for children. Many young people in the community called her "Mama," because they knew if they asked for help, she would provide.

Augusta was one of nine children. Her siblings preceded her in death.

She leaves to continue her legacy her loving husband, Joel H. Silver Sr., and seven children, Gloria J. Silver of Goldsboro, Esther Silver-Parker (Ronald) of Rogers, Ark., Dr. Linda Silver Coley (Bob) of Greensboro, Joel H. Silver Jr. (Adrian) of Charlotte, Patricia Kitrell (Tyrone) of Charlotte, Dr. Joseph H. Silver Sr. (Rosalyn) of Atlanta, Ga., and Shelton Silver (Tammy) of Wake Forest.

She also leaves three additional daughters-in-law, Cassandra Best Silver, Cassandra Barnes Silver and Gwen Bynum; an additional son-in-law, Otis Turner; and three adopted children, Roosevelt Shadding, Shelia Lee and Rosalind Moore.

Also cherishing her memory are 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a special brother-in-law, James Roy Silver; six sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Augusta was a member of Macedonia Church in Goldsboro, and she also attended Plumbline Holy Church in Enfield.

Her homegoing service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Eastern Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 N. Carolina St., where the Rev. Timothy Dortch is pastor. The Rev. Edward Roosevelt Johnson will bring the eulogy. She will be interred in Elmwood Cemetery on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The public viewing will be held Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, N.C.

She will lie in state from 11 to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Ms. Gloria Silver, 1913 Stevens St.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to the Joel and Augusta Silver Scholarship Fund, send to Dillard Alumni and Friends Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1051, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533

This is a Hamilton Funeral Chapel service, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, N.C.
