Bernice Stanley Williams, 78, 203 New Hope Village Drive, passed away at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012

A native of Duplin County, he was the son of the late John Bernice and Sadie Brock Williams, and husband of Gladys Strickland Williams, who survives.

Stanley attended schools in Duplin and Wayne counties.

He served his country in the United States Navy, completing two tours of duty aboard the USS Douglas H. Fox, DD779, in the Korean theater.

He graduated from the National Foundation of Funeral Service School of Management in 1956 at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He served in the funeral service profession in Alamance County for more than 20 years.

He left the funeral service, and accepted a position as salesman for Superior Southeast Sales, still serving the funeral industry with custom designed funeral coaches and cars, covering North and South Carolina.

He was active in the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association, 6th District, where he held the office of secretary.

He was secretary of Mebane Kiwanis Club, and a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro

Stanley is survived by his wife, Gladys Strickland Williams of the home; sons, Mark Barrett Williams and Richard Stanley Williams both of Burlington; and sister, Marjorie Gregg of Henderson.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Barrett Williams, and two sons, B. Stanley Williams Jr. and Brian Scott Williams.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, in Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, officiated by the Rev. Christian Powell.

The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory in Burlington from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service, and at other times at 203 New Hope Village Drive, Goldsboro.
