MOUNT OLIVE -- Blaney Coates Jr., 77, passed away late Thursday afternoon, Oct. 11, at his home in the Thunder Swamp community.
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 14, at 5 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vance Harrell and the Rev. Terry Coates officiating, followed by visitation. Committal and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Coates, known to many as "Junior," was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, and was a member of Rones Chapel Hunting Club.
He attended Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was well known throughout the area for his long tenure of service with Southern States and Mount Olive Service, as well as its predecessor, FCX.
He is survived by his wife, Laura, of the home; a daughter, Frances C. "Fran" Moore of Mount Olive; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Dean Coates of Calypso; three grandchildren, Matthew Gore, Nelson Coates and Lauren Moore; three sisters, Edna Williams and Joyce Hardy both of Goldsboro and Joan Worley of Princeton; several nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, more like a brother, Everette Coates, and family of Mount Olive.
His parents, Blaney and Roxie Faircloth Coates, and two sisters, Elizabeth Burroughs and Christine Anderson, preceded him in death.
