RICKARD LOCKLAIR WOOD

July 9, 1950-Sept. 22, 2012

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Rickard "Rick" Locklair Wood, 62, Charleston, S.C., passed Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, in Asheville.

A celebration of his life will be held this Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, in J. Henry Stuhr Inc. downtown chapel, 232 Calhoun St., Charleston, at 2 p.m., with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.

Rick Wood was born July 9, 1950, in Charleston, S.C., the son of the late Frank Butler Wood Sr. and Ruby Agnes Brown Wood.

The family remembers Rick as a most giving and loving person with a phenomenal wit and presence.

Rick's longtime passion was missionary work abroad, which he carried forward as a memorial to his late brother, I. Ripon Wood, assisting in 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.

His career included a Methodist ministry, a career with Sony distributors, Golden Corral and a marketing consultant.

He had the ability to inspire others to achieve a dream in the most spirited manner.

He was known as "Ranger Rick" to many, just "Bubba" to his beloved young grandchildren and as a most endearing husband, father, brother and uncle.

Rick is survived by his wife, Sharon Wood of Charleston; daughter, Lauren Cozart (Thomas) of Wilson; son, Nathan Wood of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Yvette Acuff (LaMar) of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Bontae Wood and Desiree Jordan of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, Bill Wood of Granbury, Texas, and Robert Wood of Summerville, S.C.; and grandchildren, Braxton Cozart and Elizabeth Sutton Cozart.

The family requests memorials be made to St. Michael's Church, Charleston, (Youth for Christ, Burundi Program).
