THELMA BARNES BEST

Mrs. Thelma Barnes Best, 91, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Thel," 108 Beverly Drive, Goldsboro, departed her earthly life Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

Thelma was born in Wayne County April 13, 1921, to the late Mr. B. Frank Barnes Sr. and the late Mrs. Louella Haywood Rayner Barnes.

She received her education in the public schools of Wayne County, and graduated from Dillard High School in the class of 1938.

Thel was a member of Greenleaf Christian Church.

Thelma was employed with the J.P. Taylor Tobacco Co., and served as a tobacco technician prior to her retirement.

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Greenleaf Christian Church, 2110 N. William St., Goldsboro. Dr. William Barber II will officiate. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery South, 2925 S. U.S. 117, Dudley.

Also, a public viewing will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, from 2 to 6 p.m. The family will be present from 5 to 6 p.m. to receive friends and other family members.

Mrs. Best leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories her son, Jerome Eugene Best; a granddaughter, Tara Best Lofton and husband, Anthony; a grandson, Terrence Best and wife, Diane; a great-granddaughter, Kira Lofton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will assemble Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at the residence of Mr. Jerome Best, 108 Beverly Drive, Goldsboro, one hour prior to the funeral at 9:55 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
