JOYCE SMITH WEST

Mrs. Joyce Smith West, 94, passed away early Sunday morning at the Brian Center.
Joyce was born in Wayne County Feb. 14, 1918, to the late Henry and Mattie Dawson Smith. She was married for more than 65 years to the late Harry D. West.
Joyce had worked with Grant's Department Store, and was a member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Fred Crank and Bailey Weeks officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
In addition to her husband and parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Rachel Edmundson, Pauline Lee, Ellen Hinnant and Irene Owens; and her brothers, Tom D. Smith, William Henry Smith and Jesse Smith.
Although never blessed with children of her own, Mrs. West enjoyed the love of many family members and friends. Several of those who helped fill this void include Jimmie Edmundson, nephew; Faye Westbrook, niece; Louise Owens, niece; Mae Argie Lancaster, niece; Ricky, Steve, Jim, Frank and Eddie Weeks, special friends of the family; and several other nieces and nephews.
