J.D. Fields, 73, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

J.D. was born in Wayne County Oct. 3, 1938, to the late John S. Fields and Lois Mitchell Fields.

He served his country in the United States Army, and for many years was a poultry farmer in the Grantham community.

J.D. always enjoyed playing baseball with his boys, and he helped organize the Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams in the Mar Mac community.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service at 7 p.m. in the chapel, with bishop Bryan Rouse presiding. Interment will be Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.

J.D. is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia Stevens Fields; his sons, Rex Fields of Greenville and Jeff Fields (Jennifer) of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy Hill (Curtis) of Goldsboro.

He is also survived by his extended family that includes many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
