LAGRANGE -- Lorretta Foss Layden, 74, LaGrange, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012.

Lorretta was born Jan. 23, 1938, in Lenoir County to the late Lytle Ray Foss and Louie Del Thomas Foss.

Lorretta was a woman with a sweet, gentle spirit, who possessed a strong faith. Selfless, caring, thoughtful, humorous, loving, supportive, kind-hearted, devoted, friendly, gentle and generous describe the person Lorretta was.

She enjoyed her roses, trips to the beach, reading, acting silly and, most of all, cherished time spent with her family.

Lorretta was a member of Community Baptist Church.

A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Clifford, the Rev. Jeremy Varner and the Rev. Dean Hightower officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Lorretta is survived by her husband of 58 years, Karroll Layden; four children, Tim Layden and special family friend, Deana Davis, Keith Layden, Susan H. Conway and husband, Mark, and Phyllis Layden Lanier and husband, Randy; 10 grandchildren, Deanna Scott, Lisa Zebraski, Gator Williams, Brittany B. Smith, Brock Lanier, Blake H. Vick, Brent F. Hayes, Clay Layden, Travis Layden and Aaron Layden; six great-grandchildren, Anna Houston, Jaxon Hughes, Maddox Smith, Evan Pierce Smith, Londyn Blake Vick and Macy Williams; three siblings, George Foss and wife, Sandra, Michael Foss and wife, Kaye, and Brenda Foss Garris; two special aunts, Lucille Anderson and Helen Foss Howell; lifelong friends, Jean and Henry Abbott; along with numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service of remembrance, and at other times will be at the home.
