Melvin Walton Smith Sr., 75, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, surrounded by his family at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Melvin was born in Duplin County Feb. 23, 1937, to the late Henry Hogan and Stella Daughty Smith.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Mercedes D. Smith; daughter, Deborah S. Ligor and husband, Paul, of Berlin Md.; sons, Michael Walton Smith and Melissa J. Smith of Willards, Md., and Melvin Walton Smith II and Amy D. Smith of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Patrick R. Ligor, Nicole I. Ligor, Joshua M. Smith and Joseph A. Smith; and sisters, Rosa Lee Sewell of Pikeville and Jean Johnson of West Virginia.
