LaGRANGE -- Alton Ray Killette Sr., 77, of LaGrange, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012.

A service of remembrance will be held today, July 1, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeremy Varner, the Rev. Norman Davis and the Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Ray was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Wayne County to the late Gilbert and Hepsie Parks Killette. He was preceded in death by a son, Alton Ray Killette Jr.; grandson, Alton Brian Killette; son-in-law, Mike Lanier; and four siblings, Mary Rachel Smith, Elizabeth Phipps, Reece Killette and Wayne Killette. Ray loved the land, farming and was a former recipient of the Lenoir County Young Farmer of the Year award. He was a member of Community Baptist Church and formerly worked at Kennedy Home as food service director. He served his community as a Lenoir County magistrate and served on the Lenoir County Board of Education. Ray enjoyed southern gospel music and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Brenda Head Killette; son, Brian Gilbert Killette and wife, Amanda, of LaGrange; daughter, Paige Killette Lanier of Snow Hill; two grandchildren, Mahala Killette and Megan Lanier; and three brothers, James Earlon Killette of Dudley, Robie Killette and Morris "Tom" Killette, both of LaGrange.

The family will receive friends today from 1 until 3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
