Betty Jo Garris Hare, 66, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A service to remember Betty Jo will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 7 p.m. at New Hope Friends Meeting, with Bill Garner officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in New Hope Friends Church Cemetery.

Betty Jo was born in Wayne County on Sept. 28, 1945, to William Joseph "Jack" Garris of Goldsboro and the late Kathleen Thigpen Garris. Since the death of her mother, she lived and cared for her father in his home.

Betty Jo was a longtime member of New Hope Friends Meeting. She was devoted to her church and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God. Betty Jo was employed for over 30 years at Eastern Wayne High School, where she managed the cafeteria and following retirement continued working as the cashier. She had a great love for beach music and was an avid promoter of Carolina Beach Music. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her Tuesday Night Girls, Wilber's family table friends and those she loved within the beach music industry. She will be missed.

In addition to her father, Betty Jo is survived by her son, Chris Boyette of Goldsboro; her daughter, Angie Boyette and fiancée, Darren Herring of Mount Olive; her sisters, Karon G. Anderson of Swansboro and Elaine G. Edwards and husband, Virgil, of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Boyette and Alton Joyner III; and several special nephews and niece. She is also survived by her dearest friend, DeDee Bailey of Selma.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to New Hope Friends Meeting, 4451 E. U.S. 70, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service at the church and other times at 2703 Langston Drive, Goldsboro.
