EVAN SYLVANUS SETZER JR.

KINSTON -- Evan Sylvanus Setzer Jr., 85, formerly of Greensboro and Newton died Jan. 15, 2012, at the VA Nursing Home in Fayetteville.

A graveside memorial service with military rites will be held, Sunday, April 29, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Eastview Cemetery in Newton, with Rev. David Greene officiating.

Born Aug. 3, 1926, in Catawba County. He was the son of the late Evan Sylvanus Setzer Sr. and Lonnie Mae Cathcart Setzer.

Upon graduation from high school, he was drafted into the army and served through the duration of WW II. After serving in the military, Evan attended the University of North Carolina, school of pharmacy, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree.

He was employed as a pharmacist in Graham, where he met his wife of 57 years, Cassandra Faye Whittemore Setzer, who since succeeded him in death by nine days.

They moved to Greensboro, and shortly afterwards he opened Glen Raven Drug in Glen Raven, which he owned and operated for 20 years. He was honored by the NC Pharmaceutical Association as being a practicing Pharmacist for 50 years. He and his wife moved to Kinston to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Setzer is survived by Suzanne Setzer Bizzell, and husband, Rob, of Kinston, Mary Setzer Maness, and the late Dr. Rubin F. Maness, of Goldsboro, Evan Sylvanus "Buzz" Setzer III, and wife, Julie, of High Point; grandchildren Elizabeth Bizzell Saylors, Margaret Reams Bizzell, Riley Cathleen Maness, Jonathan Robbins Maness; and great-grandchildren. Caroline Davis Saylors and Eleanor Elizabeth Saylors.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton from noon until 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, your local hospice association, or your local American Legion post.
