SNOW HILL -- Mr. Leslie O'Neal Mooring, 78, died Wednesday morning, March 28, 2012, at his home.

A native of Greene County, he was born April 9, 1933, the son of Arthur and Bettie Moore Mooring.

Mr. Mooring was a veteran of the United States Army, and had retired from the former Burroughs-Wellcome, where he worked as a mechanic for 28 years.

He was an avid fisherman, and cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, and had a deep love for his dogs, Barney and J.C.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with the Rev. Ronnie Heath officiating. Committal services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at Snow Hill Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mooring was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Taylor Mooring, and sister, Bernice Hinton.

His surviving family includes his wife, Nora Lovett Johnson Mooring; children, Leslie Vann Mooring and wife, Kathy, of Snow Hill, and Elaine Mooring and companion, Randy Ginn, of Snow Hill; stepchildren, Dee Johnson Rogers and husband, Dan, of Savannah, Ga., and Teresa Johnson Gaskins and husband, Kip, of Greenville; grandchildren, Russell Hayden, Brandi Mooring and Paige Ragavage; great-grandchildren, Nakoma Hayden and Kylee Hayden; stepgrandchildren, Kasey Combs, Suzanne Gaskins, Meagan Shackelford, Dana Toole and Allie Rogers; stepgreat-grandchildren, Parker Toole, Rylee Toole, Cameron Bagley and Molly Combs; and sisters, Bettie Arthur Hart of Snow Hill and Sue Mae Marsh of New Bern.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service, and other times at the residence, 1871 Mewborn Church Road, Snow Hill.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to United Hospice, 3723 W. Wilson St., Farmville, N.C., 27828.
