DUDLEY -- Mrs. Rosie Sinclair Strokes Cole, 87, 255 St. Matthew Road, Dudley, departed her earthly life peacefully Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Rosie was born in Wayne County April 17, 1924, to the late Lula Newkirk Stokes and Richard Stokes.

She was educated in the public schools of Wayne County.

Rosie met, dated and wed the love of her life, her late husband, Freddie L. Cole Sr., and to that union nine children were born.

Mother Rosie was a member of St. Paul AME Zion Church. She sang in the choir and served on the Mother Board.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul AME Zion, 101 Sleepy Creek Road, Dudley, with pastor Norman Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Family Cemetery, 1191 Durham Lake Road, Dudley.

Also, a public viewing will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012, at St. Paul AME Zion, 101 Sleepy Creek Road, Dudley, from 2:30 to 3 p.m., with the family present to receive friends and other family members.

Mrs. Cole leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories her children, Mary L. Davis of Lanham, Md., Carol G. and husband, William Thompson, of Glen Burnie, Md., Linda Cole Ayres of Maplewood, N.J., Mamie D. Cole of Goldsboro, Richard W. Cole of Dudley, Michael R. Cole of Maplewood, N.J., and Peggy M. and husband, Saddie Durham, of Pasadena, Md.; 25 grandchildren; more than 50 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will assemble at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, one hour prior to the funeral at 1:30 p.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
