LEETA SCOTT MCMILLEN
March 27, 1922-March 22, 2012
Leeta Naomi Scott McMillen passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, in Novato, Calif., five days prior to her 90th birthday.
Leeta was born in Vinita, Okla., to Wilson O. and Sarah Ellen Happle Scott March 27, 1922.
She married Warren M. McMillen Feb. 7, 1942, in Commerce, Okla. Warren enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, and was sent to serve on a light ship on the northern East Coast during World War II.
Leeta packed her trunk, got on the train and followed Warren to Gloucester, Mass., moving with him each time the light ship did during the duration of the war.
She was predeceased by her parents, and by Warren in 1981, and also her sister, Clarice Scott Wolfenbarger, and her brothers, Farris, Jess, Carl and Gene Scott.
Leeta was a 30-year resident of Owasso, and a charter member of Collinsville Christian Church.
She will be remembered by many Owassons as "Our Avon Lady."
Declining health was instrumental in her decision to move to Goldsboro, N.C., to live with her daughter, Sandy Kolb Thompson, and her husband, Jerry Thompson, whom Leeta later came to think of as her best friend in North Carolina.
When she could no longer live at home with them, she chose to live the remaining years of her life near her daughter, Sara Jane McMillen, and her husband, Michael Moir, in San Rafael, Calif.
Leeta also leaves to cherish her memory her eldest daughter, Judith McMillen, and her husband, Glenn Barwick, of Goldsboro, N.C.; her grandchildren Robert and Andrew Moir of San Rafael, who were the delight of her last years, Eric Kolb and his wife, Diana, and their daughters, Emily and Lucy Kolb, of Luhune, Germany, Jennifer Williams Kuykendall and fiancé, Tim Mize, of St. Louis, Mo., and Melissa Williams Hartley and her husband, Jeffery Hartley, and their daughters, Anna Grace and Jessica Hartley, of Olympia, Wash.; and her great-granddaughter, April Smith of Goldsboro, N.C.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 3, at 10 a.m. at Moore's Funeral Home in Owasso.
