CLEMENT EDWARD THOMPSON

PIKEVILLE -- Clement Edward Thompson, Capps Bridge Road, went to be with his Lord and savior Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.
Homegoing services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pike's Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pikeville.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Princeton.
Clement was born March 9, 1934, in Johnston County. He was the son of the late King Grippa and Yetta Berry Thompson.
Clement was a 1953 graduate from Princeton School.
He was a member of Pike's Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as deacon and men's fellowship president, and played on the church softball team for several years, and started Pike's Crossroads rest home ministries.
He retired from Ernest Glass Co. of Goldsboro with 32 years of service.
Clement was a member of Fremont Rescue Auxiliary and very active until his health declined. He was Auxiliary Member of the Year in 2005.
Clement is survived by his loving wife, Melva Gurley Thompson of 52 years; a daughter, Walda Talton of Pikeville; two sons, Joey Thompson and Thomas Thompson and wife, Joy, all of Pikeville; two grandchildren, Cody Thompson and Donna Talton; two stepgrandchildren, Bridget Hein and Casey Talton; a brother, Henry D. Thompson of Selma; three brother-in-laws, Woody Gurley and wife, Ruby, of LaGrange, Harold Gurley and wife, Dorothy, of Goldsboro and Walter Gurley of Pikeville; two sisters-in-law, Vayria Whitley of Goldsboro and Faye Rose and husband, Roger, of Sevierville, Tenn.; and special friends, Chuck and Candy Schudar of LaVergne, Tenn.
