MARY CORINNE PATE BRITT

In the morning hours of Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, while at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Mary Corinne Pate Britt was ushered into the presence of her Lord and savior by His angels, and has been healed and made whole again.
Corinne was a 1961 graduate of Goldsboro High School. Corinne attended Mount Olive College, transferring to Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, where she graduated with honors in 1978 receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. She earned a Master of Science degree in public administration from Central Michigan University in 1985. She did additional graduate work in public administration from East Carolina University.
Corinne worked at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base for 45 years in various areas of personnel administration, budget and finance, retiring Feb. 28, 2011. She was honored by the 916th Air Refueling Wing as Civilian of the Quarter, April through June 2009.
She was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, recording secretary of the administrative board and was a handbell choir member.
Her past civic activities and interest include past treasurer and board member of Goldsboro-Wayne County League of Women Voters, chairman of the criminal justice committee and a member of various others.
She served as board member of the Wayne County Historical Association and past president, as well as a board member of the Wayne County Museum, having served in various capacities such as social committee, town meeting hall committee and artifacts committee.
Corinne was a member of historical societies of Mount Olive, Fremont, Beaufort, Lenoir, Duplin, Sampson and Johnston counties.
She enjoyed attending Wayne Community College Foundation classes.
She enjoyed the Natural History Museum, Art Museum and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Art.
She had a great love of history, and was passionately involved with the Carolina Patriots Chapter Daughters of The American Revolution, having served as regent, vice regent and secretary, as well as serving on several committees.
A favorite pastime was doing genealogical research, being a member of the Virginia Genealogical Society and Old Dobbs County Genealogical Society.
Her hobbies included sewing and handcrafts, antiques, reading, gardening, art and painting.
During her three-month stay at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, she enjoyed looking for the birds, squirrels and raccoons from her window, coming to eat food provided by Justin and Judy.
It is with grateful hearts Corinne's family and friends acknowledge the compassionate care she received from the staff and volunteers of Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Corinne is survived by her son, George Justin Britt and wife, Laurey, of Wilmington, and her grandchildren, Amanda Britt, Daniel Britt and Amber Britt.
There to welcome her home to heaven were her late parents, Dr. Archibald H. Pate Sr. and Corinne Chestnut, as well as her son, Robert Mark Britt
Graveside services will be held Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Adam Seate officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
