Cleveland Leroy Artis was born March 4, 1951, in Wayne County to Ruth Artis Bryant and the Late Chester Best.
Cleveland departed this earthly life Feb. 15, 2012.
He was united in holy matrimony to Susie Mae Council Artis Nov. 3, 1989.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his loving and devoted wife, Susie Mae Artis of the home; three stepchildren, Delia (Nick) Nickerson of Goldsboro, Devin Wynn and Darren Wynn of Goldsboro; his mother, Ruth Artis Bryant; two sisters, Linda Smith of New Jersey and Jackie Best of New York; two brothers, Maurice Best and Chester Best of New York; an uncle, Charles (Doris) Artis of Goldsboro; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at 1 p.m. at E. M. Matthews Funeral Home, 401 N. William St., Goldsboro.
A celebration of life will follow at 2 p.m. in E. M. Matthews Life Celebration Chapel, 401 N. William St.
Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. Artis' delicate temple, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Old Mill Cemetery for interment rites.
Mr. Artis' earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Artis and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
