DUDLEY -- Joshua Daniel Newman, 90, Dudley, known to all as "J.D.," passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 1, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Mount Olive Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. An interment service will be held Sunday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. in Daniel Aycock Cemetery at Aycock's Crossroads at Lucama.

The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home Friday night, Feb. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times at Mr. Newman's residence.

Mr. Newman, a native of the Wilson County area near Lucama known as Aycock's Crossing, was the son of the late James William and Minnie Aycock Newman.

In his early life he farmed, and in later years, he was an insurance representative with Pilot Life, and then envoked a sales career with Sears, Ward's and finally, Family Dollar.

He became, in 1952, a witness for Jehovah, and was a member of the Mount Olive Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Catherine "Kittie" Jordan Newman; a daughter, Louella Marie Newman; a son, Leslie David Newman; and a brother, William A. Newman.

Those who survive him include three children, Phyllis N. Wiggins of Dudley, Brenda N. Scott and husband, Jim, of Crossnore and J. Dan Newman and wife, Margy, of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jami Keppel and husband, Eric, of Winterport, Maine, Jason Scott of Crossnore, Eric Wiggins and wife, Rachel, of Dudley and Jeff Wiggins of Dudley; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Amber Wiggins of Dudley; a brother, James Earl Newman and wife, Annice, of Lucama; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive is honored to serve the Newman family.
