CLYDE TILTON

SNOW HILL -- Clyde Tilton, 84, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Greendale Forest Nursing Home in Snow Hill.

Clyde was born in Wayne County June 21, 1927, to the late Charlie Tilton and Nora Virginia Burch Tilton. He was married to the late Mary Ruth Peedin Tilton June 4, 1953, and loved her dearly for 44 years.

Clyde was a 1944 graduate of Grantham High School.

He served his country in the United States Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War, where he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2615.

He was a retired machinist from E.I. DuPont, and was the former owner of Modern Machine Shop.

Earlier and later in his life, he enjoyed playing the guitar in church and also in nursing homes.

Clyde was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Josh Whitfield officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Clyde is survived by his daughter, Teresa T. Kennedy and husband, Walter, of Deep Run; his son, Ken Tilton of the home; and his granddaughters, Maggie Kennedy and fiancé, Philip Harper, and Anna Kennedy and friend, George Walters.

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Frances McFatter and husband, James, of Pikeville, Margaret Hollowell and husband, Jimmy, of Goldsboro and Ruthie Tilton of San Antonio, Texas; his brother-in-law, Raymond Peedin of Raleigh; and a nephew, Thomas Tilton and wife, Heidi.

He is also survived by his special caregivers, Verna Whitfield and Gladys Sutton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Maybelle T. Sasser, and brothers, Ira Tilton and James Elbert Tilton.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Walter Kennedy, 2390 Davis Mill Road, Deep Run.
