FLORENCE S. HOLT

GREENVILLE -- Mrs. Florence S. Holt, 90, went to be with her Lord and savior Saturday, Jan. 6, 2012, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.

Florence was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Cheboygan, Mich.

As a teenager, she was a winter sports queen in her hometown.

Florence married Ernest H. Holt Jan. 1, 1947, and they were able to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary together with friends and family just prior to Ernie becoming ill in 1997.

During her lifetime, Florence was a homemaker, professional cake decorator and a state officer in the North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs, and was active in her church.

She enjoyed bingo at the American Legion, as well as extended travels together with Ernie. Her vibrant love for life, as well as for her husband and children, will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest H. Holt.

She is survived by her daughter, Emily Holt Lucas and husband, Mike, of Goldsboro; her son, Buddy Holt and wife, Polly, of Greenville; grandchildren, Amy DeVaughn and husband, Darrin, John Lucas and wife, Lisa, Taylor Holt, Gray Holt and wife, Kristy, and Chesson Holt and fiancé, Tommy Goodwin; and great-grandchildren, Madison, Reneé and Matthew DeVaughn and Hannah and Josh Lucas.

The family will receive friends at the mausoleum following the service.
