LaGRANGE -- James Henry Woodard Jr., 61, of LaGrange, passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at his home with his wife by his side.

A service of remembrance will be held Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with Dr. Johnny Marks officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Estates, Grifton.

James was born May 11, 1950, in Richmond, Va., to Myrtle Beale Woodard and the late James Henry "Slim" Woodard Sr. James was preceded in death by two brothers, Harley Van Woodard and Kenneth Wayne Woodard. James enjoyed cooking, gardening and cutting grass. He loved his place at North Topsail and all his porch buddies. James and his buddies enjoyed catching up on the news, putting in an air conditioner for someone, or any job requiring help. He loved fall fishing and going to his place in the mountains. James graduated from North Lenoir High School and Lenoir Community College with a degree in mechanics. Known affectionately as "Big Boy," James worked at the Kinston DuPont plant for 37 and a half years.

Mr. Woodard is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sarah P. Woodard; two sons, James H. "Jim" Woodard III and wife, Tracey, of Hampstead and Caleb Brent Woodard of LaGrange; two precious grandchildren, Holland Brook Woodard and James Walker Woodard; a special nephew, Kelvin Doyle Anderson of LaGrange; his mother, Myrtle Beale Woodard of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Woodard Wiggins and husband, Joe, of LaGrange and Devonne Woodard of Richmond, Va.; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday from 1 until 2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, LaGrange.
