DOUG PIGFORD

Douglas Hicks Pigford, 78, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 17, 2011 at the Milford and Reba Quinn Hospice Center in Kenansville.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at Calypso Presbyterian Church.

Born April 4, 1933, in Duplin County, he was the son of the late Elias Faison Hicks and Helen Adams Pigford.

He graduated from Calypso High School, and attended East Carolina University.

He served in the United States Army for two years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mavis Gustafson Pigford; sons, Jeff Pigford and Hicks Pigford both of Calypso; daughters, Cynthia Wallace of Calypso and Janis Hogan and her husband, James, of Lenoir; and seven grandchildren, Brandon Gray Wallace, Lauren Wallace, Katie Wallace, Clay Hogan, Paul Hogan, LoriBethe Pigford and Arthur Pigford.

He is also survived by two brothers, Tom
Pigford of Grantham and Ed Pigford of Bath, N.Y., and a sister, Adele Baker of Calypso.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Elias Pigford, and sisters, Mary Vernon and Virginia Yde.

Doug was a retired computer systems analyst and entrepreneur.

He was instrumental in bringing the first computer company to southeast North Carolina.

Doug was a lifelong member of Calypso Presbyterian Church, and a former town commissioner of Warsaw.

He was an active Rotarian, where he was a past president, past lieutenant governor and a Paul Harris Fellow. He lived his life by the Rotary four-way test.

Doug was also an active member of Calypso Roundtable.

In his retirement, he enjoyed his pine trees and his pond.
