BESSIE E. TILLMAN

April 7, 1919-Oct. 22, 2011

Bessie "Altrue" Evans Tillman, 92, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Countryside Living in Pikeville.

A service to celebrate Bessie's life will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of United In Christ Church with the Rev. Ira Williford officiating. Burial will follow in the Summerlin Family Cemetery.

Bessie was born in Greene County on April 7, 1919, to the late Lorenza Evans and Alice Speight Evans. She was a woman of incredible faith and was a loyal member of United In Christ Church. As long as her health permitted, she was very active in the ministries of her church as well as her former church, Patetown Church of God, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Even when she could no longer attend church regularly, she continued to minister by calling and sharing with others of the church. Bessie's primary goal was the happiness and security of her family. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.

Bessie is survived by her sons, Tommy Tillman and wife, Betty, of Goldsboro, and Jerry Tillman and wife, Marianna, of Saulston; her daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Tillman of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Frankie Jo Korshun, Joey Tillman and wife, Deb, Renee Martin and husband, George, Tony Tillman and wife, Susan, Tonya Davis, Kelly Anders and husband, Bryan, Jennifer Boney and husband, Jonathan, and Jeremy Tillman; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friends, Ronnie and Joan Kearney.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Paul Tillman; her son, Frank Tillman; her granddaughter, Debbie Paula Tillman; her sister, Dorothy Bradshaw and her brother, Joseph Thomas Evans.

With loving gratitude, the Tillman Family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Countryside Living for the excellent care and love shown to Mrs. Tillman. May God bless each of you in a very special way.

The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Betty Tillman, 200 Cassedale Drive, Goldsboro.
