EDNA B. HESTER

Edna B. Hester, 86, of 408 Bayleaf Drive, was called home to join that beautiful flower garden on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 at her residence.

A service of celebration will be held Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at 11 a.m. at First African Baptist Church, 803 Harris St., with the Rev. Dr. Louis Leigh Jr., pastor officiating. She will be laid to rest at Wayne Memorial Park South, Hwy. 117 S.

She was born June 12, 1925, to the late George Hersel Barnes and Cora Coley Barnes in Wayne County.

She attended Wayne County Public Schools, graduating from Friendship High School, Fremont, in 1944. She completed her college studies at Fayetteville State University, graduating with a degree in elementary education. For more than 40 years, Edna worked tirelessly to provide each student with the best education. Her love for her students went above and beyond the scope of teaching.

Edna is survived by three children, Michael Hester of Goldsboro, Kenneth Hester of Mansfield Texas, and Marsha H. Smith (Kenneth) of Fredericksburg, Va.; four siblings, Ernestine Barnes of Goldsboro, Paul Barnes of New York City, N.Y., Jack Barnes, and George Barnes, both of Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a very special cousin, Dorothy Edwards of Fremont; and a host of other family and friends.

The public will be able to sign the register book at Hamilton Funeral Chapel today from 2 until 6 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at 408 Bayleaf Drive, on Monday at 10 in preparation for the procession.

Services have been entrusted to Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 South James St.
