MILDRED CHASE STROUD

SNOW HILL -- Mrs. Mildred Chase Stroud, 90, passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 18, 2011, at Greendale Forest Nursing Center.

Mrs. Stroud was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Patrick County, Va., the daughter of Josephus Holt and Hattie Mae Martin Holt.

She resided most of her adult life in the Shine community of Greene County, and was a member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a part of the choir and ladies auxiliary.

Mrs. Stroud will be remembered as a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Heath and the Rev. Larry Turlington officiating. Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stroud was preceded in death by her husbands, Lloyd Wayne Chase and Needham Stroud; a son, Howard Lloyd Chase; stepfather, Milton Harvey Moore; brothers, Ben Harvey "Shorty" Moore and William Mair "PeeWee" Moore; a sister, Virginia Holt Sines; a great-grandchild, Cameron Alexander Chase; a stepson, Bobby Stroud; and a beloved pet, Sparky.

Her surviving family includes her son, Dennis Ray Chase and wife, Peggy Hart Chase of Snow Hill; a daughter-in-law, Helen Smith Chase of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Stacey Howard Chase and wife, Misty Lang Chase, Tracey Lynn Chase, Derek Ray Chase and wife, Stephanie Maupin Chase, Devin Hart Chase and wife, Erica Forehand Chase, and Paige Elizabeth Chase; great-grandchildren, Austin Tyler Chase, Ashleigh Elizabeth Chase, Kelli Brianne Chase, Emma Rose Chase, Dakota Hart Chase and soon-to-be-born Zoe Marie Chase; a close friend, Allison Howard; a sister, Rachel Manning of Virginia; special niece and nephew, Polly Enigson and husband, Elmer, and David Earp; stepchildren, Ann Stroud Smith and husband, Ken, of Goldsboro, Frances Stroud Massengill and husband, Charlie, of Pikeville and Needham Hank Stroud and wife, Darlene, of Princeton; stepgrandchildren, Sheila Stroud Nord, Terry Stroud and wife, Crystal, Jerry Stroud and wife Sheri, Frank Sauls and wife, Marsha; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Lauren Nord, Kristen Sauls, Hannah Stroud, Maci Stroud and Reed Stroud.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service Wednesday evening, and other times at the residence, 2475 Gurganus Road, Snow Hill.
