Shirley Verge Sparks, 79, passed away Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Shirley was born in Newfoundland, Canada, Oct. 28, 1931, to the late Philip George Verge and Florence Howell Verge.
She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Debra Hines and husband, Frank, of Dudley; her sons, Bill Sparks and wife, Darlene, of Goldsboro, Bobby Sparks and wife, Vicki, of Yorktown, Va., Clay Sparks and wife, Angela, of Spokane, Wash., and Brian Sparks and wife, Angie, of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Will Sparks and wife, Crystal, Jeff Sparks and wife, Amy, Sheri McKee and husband, Trae, Philip Hines, Sara Sparks, Lindsey Sparks, Monica Sparks, Brandon Sparks, Cyla Sparks, Ashley Sparks, Emily Sparks, Jennifer Sparks and Jacob Sparks; her great-grandchildren, Brittney Sparks, Kayla Sparks, Brayden McKee, Tyler McKee, Kellen Sparks, Mason McKee and Braedyn Sparks; her brother, Bill Verge and wife, Eva, of Newfoundland, Canada; her step-grandchildren, Christina Toler and Leslie Hunt; and her step-great-grandchildren, Haley, Kaitlyn and Braxton Toler and Amber Mattson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie D. Sparks.
The family will receive today, Aug. 28, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
