Died Aug. 27, 2011

Mary A. Royal, 89, the Brian Center of Goldsboro, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro. An inspirational wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. James Disciples of Christ Church in Fremont.

Her homegoing service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. James Disciples of Christ Church in Fremont, with the Rev. J. O. Williams officiating. She will be laid to rest at Wayne Memorial Park South in Dudley.

Mrs. Royal is survived by four daughters and a son, Delores Hill, Mavis (Zeb Jr.) Regan, Linda (Ronald) Reese and Mr. Melvin (Carolyn) Artis all of Goldsboro, and Mary Carolyn (Carl) Person of Lorton, Va.; a brother, Silas Best of Fremont; two sisters, Ms. Nancy Holmes and Ms. Minnie Williams, both of Goldsboro; and a sister-in-law, Grace Best;

She leaves several stepchildren, Ralph (Anne) Artis of Capital Heights, Md., Ethelene Rodgers of Wilson, Janie Johnson, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Poles, Judy (Ervin) Gaskins, Judson (Arnesta) Royal Jr. and Larry (Paulette) all of Philadelphia, Pa., Edna (Robert) King of Goldsboro, Dollie Vinson of Smithfield, Kenneth (Erma) Royal of Selma, Donnie (Blanche) Royal of Raleigh; a special nephew, Adam Freeman (Anne) Artis of Stantonsburg; a special friend and neighbor, Ms. Mary Sue Woodard of Stantonsburg; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her oldest son, James Broady Artis, and six brothers and three sisters, William Best, Lee Harvey Best, James Best, Paul Best, Luther Best, Matthew Best, Martha Bunch, Roxie Coley and Carrie E. Smith.

Services are entrusted to Hamilton Funeral Chapel of Goldsboro.
