MOUNT OLIVE -- Russell Bradford "Brad" Brock, 63, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mickey Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in Rooty Branch Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times at the home at 2438 Beautancus Road.

Brad was a member of Rooty Branch Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as Sunday school teacher and deacon, and had participated in several mission trips.

He was a former member of the planning board for the town of Mount Olive and was a graduate of North Duplin High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

A retired farmer, he had been a member of the faculty of James Sprunt Community College and continued to hold various farming interests.

In addition, he was a frequent sight at Southern Belle Restaurant, where he assisted his mother on a regular basis.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Goodman Brock of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Kristy Brock of Mount Olive; a daughter and son-in-law, Brandi B. and Dave Elkin of Faison; his mother, Gaynell Herring Brock of Mount Olive; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie B. and Bobby Grady and Gloria B. and Grey Morgan all of Mount Olive; a nephew, Greyson Morgan; and two nieces, Bobbie Lynne Grady and Gayna Morgan also of Mount Olive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Brock.
