JEAN M. HUBBARD

July 20, 1945-July 29, 2011

Jean Metzger Hubbard, 66, of Goldsboro died July 29, 2011.

Born in Long Beach, Calif., she was the daughter of the late John Kurtz Metzger and Ruth Veit Metzger.

She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and loved singing in the choir, making sure she was at every Wednesday evening choir practice.

Mrs. Hubbard worked at the Goldsboro News-Argus and was not only a willing and caring employee, but was also meticulous about her job and being on time every day -- often arriving in advance of her shift.

In addition to her love of her church, Mrs. Hubbard also was a passionate reader and was a frequent visitor at the Wayne County Public Library.

Mrs. Hubbard was a woman of few words, but she was known for her gentle and kind personality. She was loved and respected by her co-workers and members of her church.

She will be missed.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hubbard will be 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Adam Seate officiating.

Burial will be Monday, Aug. 22, in the Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery in Cumberland, Va.

Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her son, Eddie Hubbard of Goldsboro; and mourned by the employees of The Goldsboro News-Argus, whom she considered her family, the Rev. and Mrs. Glenn Brock of Zebulon (her home away from home); and her numerous cats.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to St. Luke United Methodist Church Music Fund, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and online condolences may be directed to www.shumate-faulk.com.
