WILLIAM "BILL" PHILIP MONEYPENNY

HILLSBOROUGH -- Retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt. William "Bill" Philip Moneypenny, 81, retired FAA flight examiner and pilot instructor and longtime Goldsboro resident, passed away June 6, 2011, in Hillsborough.
A service celebrating his life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Goldsboro.
Bill was a well-known private pilot, pilot instructor and FAA flight examiner, having developed a love for flying while stationed with the Air Force in California, where he received his private pilot's license in 1966.
He moved his family to Goldsboro in 1967, and earned his certified flight instructors' license and instrument rating that year. He was a pilot instructor at the base aero club, and retired from the Air Force in 1974, when he became chief flight instructor at Goldsboro-Wayne Airport.
Bill became an FAA examiner in 1978 and accumulated 15,000-plus hours of flight instruction before retiring from flying in October 2002.
Survivors are wife, Gerda "Sue" Moneypenny of Hillsborough; children, Bill of Chapel Hill, Steve and wife, Carol of Raleigh and Holden Beach and Susan Moneypenny of Wichita, Kan.
Bill is also survived by two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.
