Lilliette Sauls Smith, 56, passed away Monday afternoon, June 20, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Greene County, she was born the daughter of the late Joe and Laura Ellen Smith Sauls.

Lillie, as she was affectionately known, worked at WAGES (Wayne Action Group for Economics Solvency Inc.), where she was a lead teacher. She enjoyed her work immensely, and considered her co-workers and colleagues among her dearest friends.

In addition to her late parents, Lillie was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Sauls.

Those surviving include her two brothers, Linwood A. Sauls and wife, Addie, of Goldsboro and James E. Sauls and wife, Barbara, of Wilson; three sisters, Dorothy S. Heath of Snow Hill, JoAnn Parris and husband, Edgar, of Wilson and Judy S. Weaver and husband, W.C., of Rocky Mount; her niece and caregiver, Sheila H. Smith; several other nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bobby Pate of Kinston and his children.

Additionally, Lillie had a special pet that she loved dearly, a boxer named Lexus, who also died Monday afternoon.

A special thanks is rendered to Dr. Chang and all the staff of Southeastern Medical Oncology for the care and kindness shown to Lillie. There are not words to describe the encouragement and support that was given through the hugs and kind words.

Community Hospice and staff, Laura, Gwen, Janet, Jamie, and especially Bonita, were not only great friends, but attended devotedly to Lillie's every need.

Also, former senator, Don Davis, and his assistant, Monica, are thanked for the assistance rendered with certain issues.

Sheila and all of Lillie's family appreciate those aforementioned and everyone who has said prayers and rendered acts of kindness and concern. A heartfelt thank you is given.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, immediately following the service, and other times at the home of Linwood and Addie Sauls, 702 Holland Drive, Goldsboro, N.C.
