RALEIGH -- Betty Kaye Herring-Shapiro, died Friday at Duke Raleigh Hospital after a long and courageous battle with illness.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Westwood United Methodist Church, Goldsboro. Committal service will follow in the Herring Cemetery, Albertson. The Rev. Rufus Butner III will officiate. There will be a time of sharing with the family in the fellowship hall before the funeral.
Surviving are her husband, Jay Shaprio and her sisters, Gay Herring Butner Brown (Rufus) of Goldsboro and Dorothy Herring King Harris (Claxton) of Chapel Hill.
She was born in Duplin County and preceded in death by her parents, Winnie Blanton Herring and Henry Herring.
Betty Kaye was a woman of great faith and an abiding love of the Lord. That was never more evident than during the last year of her illness. She was truly an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Betty Kaye was a member of the first class or Oral Roberts University. During a long and distinguished career in business, she was a special assistant to Gov. James Hunt during his years in office and was instrumental in the formation of the North Carolina Council on Women. She managed commercial property, was an International tour Director, Director of Travel for the North Carolina Symphony, and was a contract writer for the software industry.
Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd Floor, Bethesda, Md.
