AUSTELL, Ga. — Jean B. Brashear, 85, formerly of Goldsboro, died Monday afternoon at Tranquility Hospice in Austell, Ga.

Born in Akron, Ohio, to the late Bert and Stella Fields Begley, she lived most of her early life in eastern Kentucky.

She had been a resident of Goldsboro since 1959 until she moved to Georgia in 2001.

Mrs. Brashear received her registered nursing degree from Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Md., where she served in the Nurses Army Corps during World War II, and later worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She also worked at hospitals in Ankara, Turkey (United States Air Force hospital); Chicago, Ill. (Ravenwood Hospital); Louisville, Ky.; and Goldsboro, N.C. (Wayne Memorial and Cherry hospitals). She retired from Cherry Hospital with 25 years of service.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 532 Country Day Road, of which she was a member, with the Rev. James H. Harry of Saint Paul United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Harold D. Brashear and wife, Jody, of Goldsboro and Douglas L. Brashear and wife, Donna, of Torrance, Calif.; her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa B. Brooks and husband, Scott, of Acworth, Ga.; her sisters, Clella Mae Holcomb of Catlettsburg, Ky., Helen Selles of Dallas, Texas, and Faye Shadburne of Munfordville, Ky.; and grandchildren, Lee Brashear and wife, Anna, of Raleigh, N.C., Christine Brashear of Reston, Va., Brittany Brashear of Torrance, Calif., and Rebecca, Suzanne and Wesley Brooks of Acworth, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Begley and Bert Begley Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 532 Country Day Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home Thursday, June 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times at the home of Harold and Jody Brashear at 119 Fairway Drive.
