JOSEPH HENRY LUCAS

ASHEBORO -- Mr. Joseph Henry Lucas, 90, Asheboro, N.C., died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Randolph County, N.C., Mr. Lucas was born March 12, 1921. He was a builder and brick mason and a member of the Gideons International. Mr. Lucas served in the United States Army during World War II.

Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife, Jewel Brown Lucas of the home; sons, Michael Lucas and wife, Emily, of Goldsboro and Tommy Lucas and wife, Sue, of Asheboro; daughters, Shirley Taylor and husband, Russell, Wanda Ingold and husband, Howard, and Susie James and husband, Terry, all of Asheboro; brother, David Lucas of Greensboro; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ridge Funeral Home, and other times at the home.
