JAMES H. SUGGS

SNOW HILL -- James Haywood "Pee Wee" Suggs, 75, passed away Thursday evening, March 17, 2011.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today, March 20, at Snow Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Heath officiating.

A native of Greene County, he was born March 13, 1936, the son of the late Robert L. Suggs and Sudie Mae Grady Suggs. As many of his generation, Pee Wee found his livelihood in the soil of Greene County as a tobacco farmer and he remained active in farming until very recent years. He was a member of Free Gospel PFWB Church and had served on the Jason Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years.

In addition to his parents, Pee Wee was preceded in death by a son, James Alan Suggs; a grandson, Matthew Daniel Sugg; sisters, Emma Joyce Suggs and Josie Suggs Radford; and brothers, John W. Suggs, Robert Leroy Suggs and Melvin Ray Suggs.

Those who survive him include his beloved wife of 56 years, Imelda "Mel" Moore Suggs; a daughter, Rhonda Suggs Fleming and husband, Neil, of Lansdale, Pa.; sons, Danny Ray Sugg and wife, Cindy, of Snow Hill, Jeffrey H. Suggs and wife, Jane, of Seven Springs, Christopher Lee Suggs and wife, Wanda, of Wade, Jimmy N. Suggs and wife, Pam, of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Stephen Fleming and wife, Dr. Lisa Fleming of Boston, Mass., Katherine Fleming of New York, N.Y., Meredith S. Ange and husband, The Rev. Nathan Ange of Chesapeake, Va., Jeffrey Allen Suggs and Carole Suggs, both of Seven Springs, Sarah Bethany Suggs, Christopher Lane Suggs and James Bradley Suggs, all of Wade, and Nicholas Jordan Suggs and Alex Aldridge Suggs, both of Snow Hill; a brother, Lawton Suggs of Snow Hill; and a sister, Mary Lou Rouse of LaGrange.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service and other times at the residence of Jimmy and Pam Suggs, 2306 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill.
