LOLA CASEY BARWICK

Lola Casey Barwick, 86, went to be with the Lord Jan. 16, 2011. She passed away peacefully with her daughter, Sylvia, and son-in-law, Ron, at her side at their home in Raleigh, N.C.

She was born April 28, 1924, in Goldsboro, N.C., the daughter of the late Sam and Addie Daniels Casey.

In addition to her parents, Lola was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Arnold Ginn Barwick; her sisters, Annie Mae Jackson and Lelia Powell; and brothers, Barney Casey, Lonnie Casey Sr. and Junior Casey.

A graduate of Goldsboro High School, she married the love of her life, Arnold Ginn Barwick, Jan. 10, 1942. During the early years of her marriage, she became a full-time homemaker, raising three children.

Later in life she worked with handicapped children as a licensed physical therapist assistant at O'Berry Center in Goldsboro, where she retired after 21 years of service.

A devoted wife, mother and Christian, Lola was a long-standing member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro.

Lola had many hobbies, which included cooking, gardening, sewing, flower arranging and propagating African violets.

She was a wonderful, loving and devoted wife and mother, who displayed great courage and strength to endure the devastating disease of Alzheimer's.

A service to celebrate her life will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church, 604 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will be receiving friends Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Lola is survived by her three children, daughters, Brenda Carol Barwick of Goldsboro, Sylvia Hester and husband, Ron, of Raleigh, N.C., and son, Glenn Barwick and wife, Judith, of Goldsboro; grandson, A.G. Barwick, Jr. and wife, Jo, of Wendell, N.C.; granddaughter, Stacie Oatman of Goldsboro; four great-granddaughters, Ashley Cole, April Smith, Alyson Barwick and Jordan Barwick; and a sister, Aline Hines.
