DUDLEY -- Mr. James "Jimmy" Benton Sr., 69, 103 N. Timber Place, Dudley, N.C., 28333, went into eternal rest Sunday at 3:45 p.m. at home.

He was born July 15, 1941, in Johnston County, N.C., to Mr. Alton and Mrs. Cassie Jones Benton.

He received his education through the Wayne County Public Schools.

He was employed as a truck driver in Brooklyn, NY.

Mr. Benton was the eldest of five children.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Geneva Lewis Benton; six children: Ronald (Pamula) Benton, Thersa (Cill) Benton Boswell, Andrea Benton (Bahe) Muslimah Aldean, James Henry Benton Jr., Roshonda Benton (Quantez) Turnage and Cassandra Smith Benton; two adopted sons, Leon Iron Moccasin "Butch" and Jimmy Lewis; a brother, Mr. Carl (Renee) Benton; two sisters, Mrs. Joyce (Richard) Peterson and Ms. Lille Bento; sister-in-law: Alma Gill; special niece, Sharon Harris of New York; special nephew, Anthony Benton of Goldsboro; four aunts, Mrs. Villie Benton, Mrs. Annie Bell Hobbs, Mrs. Eunice Jones and Ms. Eliza Jones; special lifetime friends, Nat, Willie, Grover, Ricky and Robert.

A viewing for Mr. Benton will be held Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Benton will also lie in state at St. Mark Church one hour prior to celebration of life services, which will begin at 2 p.m.

Following the services in the sanctuary, Jimmy, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Wayne Memorial Park for committal rites.

Services of compassion and distinguished class are provided by E.M. Matthews Funeral Home.
