JO ANN B. BISHOP

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mrs. Jo Ann Brogden Bishop, 69, of 1497 Red Hill Road, Mount Olive, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, Sept. 23, 2010, while a patient at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Services were 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Fussell and the Rev. Mark Hobbs officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home at the conclusion of the service and at the residence at other times. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 26, at Maplewood Cemetery.
Mrs. Bishop was the daughter of the late James Phillip and Bessie Carter Brogden. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and friend. Her husband, daughter and son meant the world to her, and her love grew even more when her grandsons came into her life. Nothing in this world compared to the love that she had for each of them.
She had been a rural mail carrier for the Mount Olive Post Office until retirement several years ago due to health reasons.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by her husband of 51 years, Herman Ray Bishop of the home; a daughter, Lori Ann Bishop Whitted and husband, Ormond Whitted Jr., of Mount Olive; a son, Tony Ray Bishop and wife, Robin Britt Bishop, of Mount Olive; three grandsons, Graham Whitted and wife, Amber Lawrence-Whitted of Goldsboro, and Cody Ray Whitted and Anthony Ray Bishop, both of Mount Olive; a great-grandson, Lawrence Avery Whitted of Goldsboro; three sisters, Thelma B. Reaves, and Nell B. Hudson-Odom, and husband, Jarvis Odom, of Mount Olive, and Hilda B. Precythe and husband, Henry Precythe of Faison; a brother, Charles Ray Brogden of Dudley; and many nieces and nephews; and the families of the late Herman and Julie Bishop.
In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin "Chubby" Brogden, Troy Brogden, and Roy Brogden; and a sister, Linda B. Sauls.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Southeastern Medical Oncology Center and the seventh floor nursing staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital for the loving care given to Jo Ann and for the support extended to them, the family.
