Died Sept. 19, 2010

PIKEVILLE -- Retried Army sergeant first class Kenneth Edward Fugate, 75, of Pikeville, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, in his home.

He served as a medical technician during the Vietnam War, and was a recipient of several awards and medals, including the Bronze Star with Valor.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, in Reeves Funeral Home chapel in Hope Mills, with chaplain Tim Gore officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, Sept. 22, 2010, at Reeves Funeral Home.

Mr. Fugate was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Taylor Fugate.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Carter, and son-in-law, James Carter, both of Pikeville; sister, Kathleen Robinson of Bridgeton, N.J.; two grandsons, Robert Carter of Elizabeth City and William Carter of Asheville; and four great-grandchildren, Emily, Zachary, Hannah and Julian.
