GOLDSBORO -- Mary Lou Hinnant Howell, died Wednesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center with her family by her side.

Funeral service will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road.

There will be a time of sharing with the family following the service. Committal will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 U.S. 117 South, Dudley, with the Rev. Gary Bailey and Barry Williamson officiating.

Surviving are her daughters, Lou Ella Howell Daw (Alton) of Goldsboro, Barbara Howell Green (William) of Pikeville and Donna Pate of Fremont; grandchildren, Sherry Daw, Lori Garcia and Clark Daw of Goldsboro, Rhett Green of Pikeville, Justin Pate of Greenville and Kelly Pate of Buies Creek; great-grandchildren, Courtney Bradford, Thomas Towson and Natalia Garcia; and two sisters-in-law, Hazel H. Sullivan and Bernice Hinnant both of Goldsboro.

The Howell family would like to convey its appreciation to Carrie Jones, Mrs. Howell's senior companion, along with the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center and 3HC.

She was a native of the Belfast Community of Wayne County, and was preceded in death by her parents, Ella Livingston Best and Royal Frank Hinnant; her husbands, Henry Leroy Howell and William Claxton Howell; and her siblings, Bobby Hinnant and Carlie Hinnant.

Mrs. Howell was an active member of Stoney Creek Church, where she participated in the Stoney Creek Ladies Quartet and church choir, where she sang alto. In addition, she was a youth leader, Sunday school teacher and member of the Faith Sunday school class. She also devoted much of her time to the women's auxiliary.

Mrs. Howell was the owner and operator of Howell's Grocery Store in Belfast until 1980. From 1980 to 2005, she was the bookkeeper for Green's Auto Salvage in Eureka.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in her honor to Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Green at 5400 U.S. 117 North, Pikeville.
