DORIS TILLMAN SLOAN

Doris Tillman Sloan, 88, of Leland, passed away Thursday at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today, July 18, 2010, at Peace Baptist Church 320 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, by the Rev. Rudy Shepard. The family will receive friends at the church from 3 p.m. until the service hour.
Interment will follow at 11 a.m. Monday in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Olive.
She was born in Mount Olive, Oct. 8, 1921, daughter of the late William Henry Tillman and Jay Gola Summerlin Tillman. Preceding her in death was her husband, Henry Steven Sloan, a daughter, Carolyn Winstead, five brothers and six sisters.
Mrs. Sloan was a member of Peace Baptist Church and a former member of Mount Olive First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, James Sloan (Carol) of Morehead City, Doris Avant (Hiram) of Robbinsville, John Sloan (Diana) and Wayne Sloan (Laura) all of Wilmington; son-in-law, Ollie Winstead; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ted Tillman (Alice) of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Leland House Recreation Department, 1935 Lincoln Road, Leland, NC, 28451.
