Deacon Ralph Earl Barnes Sr., 75, of 180 Ward Drive, Dudley peacefully passed from labor to reward Thursday morning at his residence.

Deacon Barnes life and legacy will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Best Grove Missionary Baptist church with Bishop L. N. Forbes officiating. His mortal remains will be laid to rest with military honors in the Wayne Memorial Park.

He was the son of the Late Hugh Jacobs and Lila Barnes Jacobs.

He was educated In Wayne County Public Schools and served in the U.S. Army.

Deacon Barnes Christian life and experience began at Greenleaf Disciples of Christ Church. Later he joined Christ Centered Church and later joined his wife at Parker's Chapel OFWB Church where he dutifully served as chairman of Deacon Board, member of the Male Chorus and an adult Sunday School teacher.

Precious memories are cherished by his devoted and loving wife, Evangelist Betty Ruth Edmundson Barnes of the home; mother, Lila Jacobs of Goldsboro; four daughters, Delilah Riley of Norfolk, Va., Diane (Rev. William) Smith of Goldsboro, Janet Edmundson of Goldsboro, Kristy Wellington of Goldsboro; two sons, Ralph (Rita) Barnes Jr. of Clayton, Marcus Barnes of the home; eight sisters, Sallie J. Best, Rosemary (Thedwood) Sherard, Brenda (Wiley) Reid, Linda (Marvin) Bowman, Catherine Brown, Hilda Erlene Altice, Doris Joyner, all of Goldsboro, and Iris Jean (Fred) Bibby of Richmond, Va.; four brothers, Hugh (June) Jacobs of Charlotte, Chester (Oreta) Jacobs of San Diego, Calif., Apostle Dennis (Ravonda) Jacobs of Goldsboro, Michael Jacobs of Goldsboro; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 until 7 p.m., with the family present to receive friends during an inspirational wake from 6 until 7 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries, Goldsboro. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence, where they will also assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.
