IRENE EDWARDS WHITAKER
June 12, 1914 - July 5, 2010
Irene Edwards Whitaker, 96, formerly of Johnston County and Princeton, died Monday morning at Smithfield Manor. She was born June 12, 1914, to the late Phillip David and Octavia Peedin Edwards. Mrs. Whitaker was the widow of James Edward Whitaker formerly of Wendell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. tonight at Casey Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Percy Coleman officiating. The committal service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Progressive Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Whitaker of Richlands, Clyde Whitaker of Princeton Ralph Whitaker of Princeton; her daughters, Foy Mae Fail of Goldsboro, Jeraldine Woodard of Rosewood and Goldie Hicks of Angier; 17 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening and immediately following the funeral service.
